Interesting - I expect they likely have some good reason for taking that step - whether it's the right approach or not is clearly very, very debatable.

For those who haven't checked them out McLean has a nice series of videos on backcountry travel that I recently watched and enjoyed a lot. Pretty good sense of humor too.

I've never really been close to skiing above cliffs or exposure that would be fatal with a fall. Don't mind fairly steep stuff but some of the Chuting Gallery stuff if not maybe all is so way out of my league.

Without the full story, I'm not going to take a position but I sure hope that McLean and his wife didn't take the law into their own hands. If he saw an inappropriate hunting stand, he should call the local F&W warden.

I'd be willing to bet it's just a case of two people that don't like hunting and don't like seeing tree stands in their hiking/skiing areas. They thought they would get away with it but got nabbed thanks to a game camera they didn't notice.
I'd be kind of pissed off if some anti-hunter went into my duck blind and took my stuff. Although my stuff is no where near as expensive as good deer stands.

I'm surprised (and I bet they are too) that it is a felony.

Show of hands. Anybody else besides me ever ski in to deer camp?

Just thought I'd update this for those who might be interested. The pair were formally charged with two misdemeanors each; theft and criminal mischief. Given their otherwise good standing in the community, I imagine this will get plead down to something resulting in restitution and some community service. Ms. McLean will almost surely be out of her job as a municipal attorney though, which is a pretty big hit.

Better than a felony.
