Midwinter at the end of April!

Postby Dirk » Mon Apr 23, 2018 8:07 am

While Rob was up in the Gulf (great photos, by the way), I was exploring equally wintry terrain here in the Green Mountains. This is the Adam's Apple and Chin of Mount Mansfield, from Lake of the Clouds on Saturday.

There were people crawling all over the Mansfield Ridge Saturday, and there was powder enough for everyone. I snapped a shot of these guys descending what I believe is known as the Hourglass Chute.

Sunday, I went up to Jay. The Tram side is closed for the season due to heavy icing on the tram cables from this last storm. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade, right? Jay Peak and the tram building from Big Jay:

It's been twenty years since I've seen top to bottom coverage like this in late April. Get out there and get after it, folks!

nice coverage on the Chin, wow, it's too bad so few ski areas stay open late these days. Seems like almost everyone closed on the 15th this year.

April 29, Most trails at Stowe are still running top to bottom with limited bare spots. This is descending Nose Dive on Saturday, with the gondola trails and Smuggler's Notch in the background.

We went back Sunday, despite the rain. But then the rain turned to snow. How long will this season last?
